Here at Thornburg & Associates, Inc., we know that finding a buyer or tenant for your property is a difficult task. A large part of your success depends on attracting interested parties to your property, and an important way to do that is to write property listings. Property listings are brief descriptions of a property for sale and list their major structural and aesthetic features to give buyers an idea of what to expect. These days, virtually all property listings include photos, but you can’t rely on photos alone to draw people in–you also need an enticing description. In this article, our team at Thornburg & Associates, Inc. will provide a few expert tips on how to write effective property listings.

How to Write Effective Property Listings

  • Keep it Concise- The best property listings fit all their important information into as few words as possible, usually under 250 total. While this might not seem like a lot to work with, remember that potential buyers will be reading description after description, so they are unlikely to finish reading your listing if it’s too long.
  • Provide Details- Although you need to keep your property listings short, you also need to include specific details about your home. In particular, buyers need to know how many beds and baths the property has, how big it is, where it’s located, etc. Try to get creative with the language when you can to keep things fresh, but don’t forget that your main purpose is to inform.

Include a Call to Action- Lastly, we at Thornburg & Associates, Inc. recommend including a call to action at the end of your property listings. This is a short statement that tells the reader what to do next, such as “schedule your showing today!” Providing a clear next step will increase the number of calls you get with interested buyers.
